Mother Nature Strikes Back (Day 4)

I woke up a lil' bit earlier today to collect the morning papers. The South- China Post confirmed what I had been fearing on Day 3. The casualty list caused by the quake is a rather big one. What I did not expect though was to read that there were deaths in Malaysia as well. The newspaper even included pictures of the damage suffered in Penang and Langkawi. Even KL was reported to have suffered the effects of a considerable tremor. Sigh..it' s indeed a sad day for us.
However, without the risk of incurring the wrath of those already suffering from this most untimely tragedy (considering that the South - East Asian countries are still recovering from the economic slump), I have to conclude that we, as matured and sensible human beings, must take note of what Mother Nature is trying to tell us!
Basically, the message is clear and simple. "Abuse me further and suffer the consequences!" She's practically giving us a warning shot! She's striking back after years of intolerable abuse at the hands of men, where we have:
  • poluted her nostrils with deadly fumes of poison (air)
  • filled her belly with chemical wastes (land)
  • cover her ears with deafening sounds
  • thin her skin by scraping the ozone layer
  • blemish her natural diet (water)

Practically, men have believed so wrongly that they are made in the mould of God that they should in the end take over his role! We are proud creatures who give too lil' credit to other creatures around us and too much credit to ourselves. Let us not forget that we r a very young race of species. Even the dinosaurs, who existed much longer than we have now, perished when confronted with the bare force of Mother Nature (if the theory behind the meteor showers, volcano eruption, weather changes, mass floodes is to be believed). She's a force to be reckoned with, even by our so called "modern and technologially sophiscated" standards. Hopefully, this tragedy would be an eye opener that we must change not only for Mother Nature but also for ourselves! A major paradigm shift must take place to ensure that significant protection to the environment is allocated.

The reports of death and suffering in the end took off the gloss off my trip to Ocean Park. Ocean Park though is a good example of wat we must do to protect Mother Nature. There must be more awareness among ourselves to give more priority to the conservation of wildlife and their natural habitat. No one gave us, humans, the right to decide what dies and what lives. There may/may not be a God. But, one thing is for certain. We are not the most superior force either.

In the evening, I was brought to the New Territories for a sumtous dinner of goose meat (a local specialty) and other authentic Chinese cuisine.Mmmmm.....

After that, our guide decided to spice up the evening. He brought us to Mongkok to view the so called HK "chickens" (prostitutes) along Shanghai Street. Apparently, I was told that these women literally acted like a real chicken, at the slightest sound of a police siren, they would flee in a flash. Wow....amazing reflexes eh? Maybe sex really is a good form of exercise afterall!

For about 15 minutes, for the first time in my life, I was hunting for chickens and looking for prostitutes. Don't get me wrong though....there was no intention of getting any more "meals" here, I clearly told my guide that the early dinner had filled my appetite sufficiently enough. Sadly though, even with 15 minutes looking around for these pretty women, we only spotted a measly 2 of them. (Although in my view, there was no way I could differenciate between a call gal and a normal gal clubbing in Sunway). Anyway, we soon found out the reason the chickens were asleep tonight.

There were police patrol cars everywhere! Although, after some 'Q n A' sessions with the locals, we found out that they were there to arrest come young blokes who were involved in illegal racing. Sigh..... why can't these fellas juz race some other day? They had to do it when old 'Mr. Innerflame is there on his Discovery Channel quest.

Next, we went to Ladies Street to take a look (boy, the crowd here is suffocating) and Portland Street where the new shopping centre was located. I have to say the shopping centre looks like our bloody Bkt Jalil Stadium. Is Midvalley Megamall really the biggest mall in Asia? If it is, it is really a neck to neck photo finish betwn these 2 giants!

That trip ended my stay in HK. I'm leaving HK tomoro noon. I doubt there will b any posts tomoro though. As a summary of the day, I leave you with these few short comments:

  1. To those who lost loved ones because of the quake: "Death is not the end, but juz a beginning of another journey".
  2. We must do something more for environmental conservation!
  3. Chickens in HK are not really easy to find. Skills are needed. Subtlety is a prerequisite!
