A very happy day indeed (7/4/2005)

It’s been a very tough period for me! But, 7/4/2005 will probably be etched in my mind as my best birthday thus far.

Firstly, I made it into the finals of the mooting competition against all odds! It has been a thoroughly testing competition as it has put me and my learned junior counsel to the ultimate test of balancing time between our research and our studies, especially since our exam finals is just around the corner! I have to say that our classmates deserve a lot of credit for our remarkable run. They had turned up in droves to support us and I’m very happy that I and Hou Tseng have duly managed to reward them for their support! Our opponents in the semi-finals definitely lived up to their fearsome reputation and drove us to the hilt with their awesome display of oratory skills and aggressive maneuvering of the law. Fortunately, our experience pulled us through, albeit, they would have perhaps done better if they had not been involved in some internal bickering between themselves. However, they should be proud for making it that far in the competition. They can only get better and will be a force to reckon with in the next tournament!
In the finals this week (14/4/2005), it will definitely be a rewarding display of mooting battle for any legal enthusiasts in our college! It will be the battle between EXPERIENCES vs. RAW TALENT. My opponents this time are not law students but are ‘mere’ A-Levels students. But, they are perhaps the most deserving among all the teams in the competition. Considering the lack of experience and resources, they have definitely managed to earn the respect of all, including myself, in reaching the final! (Ying Khai and Zijian, you guys are definitely mooting prodigies! Have you guys considered a legal career?) Which one will prevail? It will be a close battle of course, with the outcome totally in the balance. A single wrong move or a careless mistake will most probably end up in a checkmate! Hopefully with more undying support, I can pull through victorious and cap a totally happy period of time before my exams.
Secondly, after the moot, I also managed to spend some quality time with a very lovable friend of mine. She has been quietly supporting me behind the scenes. She is my wind beneath my wings, the passion behind my soul, the strength carrying my body and without her I cannot see myself soaring! I have to say that I owe a lot of my current euphoria and success towards her loving words of encouragement! (And, hopefully I won’t let her down in the final itself!) Hopefully we can get a good respite together after that yea?
I also managed to meet up with a bunch of friends to celebrate my birthday! We met up at Coffee Bean Ss2 and drank to our hearts contentment. Of course, the only beverages on sale were tea and coffee! I should and will take this chance to thank Hou Tseng and his girlfriend, Jamie and Weng Tchung (who I have to say will be a very compatible couple) and Azlan (who made time out of his busy schedule). I really appreciate you guys celebrating my special day with me! We finally left the place at 11/30 pm and that wasn’t even the end of the night for me! What more can a guy ask for his birthday?
P/s: I do notice a stark decline in the quality of my language on my blog. Any such weaknesses are highly regrettable! Due to my busy schedule, I also apologize for my late updates and my inability to frequent your blogs.

Interesting blog entry to stumble across.. :) Congrats on your winning to the finals. There was no "internal bickering", merely a display of lack of responsibility and dedication to date on a side of a certain partner. Would appreciate if you get that part right.

Cheers,
Your opponent in the moot

Am not belittling your victory here, but some people (including one of the judges) I talked to gave me the impression that on that particular moot, your opponent's 'senior counsel' blew it by not coming prepared. He was all rhetorics but very little substance. "Lack of responsibility" is right.

okok..sorry for the wrong usage of words miau yen...."lack of responsibily" will officially as of now replace the phrase "internal bickering". I can concur with your observation mr fishtail. He literally shot himself on the foot!
