UCL Round 16
The draw for the Uefa Champions League round of 16 is as follows:
Chelsea v Barcelona
Real Madrid v Arsenal
Werder Bremen v Juventus
Bayern Munich v AC Milan
PSV v Lyon
Ajax v Inter Milan
Benfica v Liverpool
Rangers v Villarreal.
The draw has been rather kind to the so called smaller teams of the competition like Rangers and Lyon. This year may see a resurgence of the smaller teams doing well and going far down the road as they are again pit together against each other.
On the other hand, football enthusiasts must also be drooling at the prospects of the titanic battles that lie ahead for the big clubs. Chelsea v Barcelona has to be the pick of the round. The last time these 2 teams met, they served a feast for football fans worldwide. I have to say I’m eagerly hoping that someone can somehow get me the tickets to this match (indirect appeal to anyone willing to help me get the tickets). This match will be all about the Blue’s efficiency and the Catalan team’s attacking thrust.
Besides that, Real Madrid v Arsenal should also be an interesting match. Usually, the Gunners tend to falter at the European stage. But, this year they do not have their focus on the EPL that much, since Chelsea is already stealing a good march ahead. Arsenal are still quite a potent force and against an ailing Real side, I would personally fancy their chances. I think a small punt on the Gunners topping this tie is not really a risky move.
Werder Bremen must have rued their luck when they were paired with the titans from Turin. Juventus have steamrolled everyone in Italy with an enviable result of wins after wins. No team seems to have found a remedy to shackle this Old Lady. My verdict: Juve to go through!!
Bayern v. AC Milan is another clash of the titans. Gosh…No one with a brave heart can dare call this either way. But, I fancy that Bayern may be the slight favourites especially since they are the only team who have seemed to be able to match Juventus thus far.
PSV Eindhoven v. Lyon. Oooo….too close to call.
Ajax Amsterdam v. Internaziole Milan. This is not the Ajax side of old who used to boast the likes of Patrick Kluivert, Edgar Davids, Johann Cryuff or Marco Van Basten. This new side managed my Danny Blind is toothless in attack since the sale of Ibrahimovic and Mido. It seems that Inter will win this tie without much sweat. Any different outcome has to be counted as an upset.
Benfica v Liverpool is another predictable match in my opinion. A win for the Reds of course.
Rangers v Villareal. Who cares really? LOL. But, Villareal should go through. Rangers are just crap this year, even in the SPL.
Note: 1. This article is not meant as a guide for any punts placed.
2. Can anyone please get me the tickets to the Chelsea/ Arsenal match? I have been a good boy this year…Santa please send me the tickets!!
