"Good" Bye
People always say "good bye". But, is that really the correct thing to say? Are there really any good separations? Well, perhaps if you hate someone then that separation will do both parties good. I definitely know how that feels. But even then, the correct thing to say would probably be " good riddance".
I'm leaving Oxford on the 6th of June. Although, there were times when I wished I could leave Oxford in a blink of an eye, I have to admit I've rather grown fond of the place. I love the fact that I can speak English all the time and the fact that most people speak good English sans the dramatic " lahs" and "oohhs". I like the fact that I can go out safely with the knowledge I won't be drenched in sweat by the time I get home, albeit, I may be wet with rain water instead.
I do not like "good byes". It was difficult when Nana was the first to leave. She seemed very heavy hearted to leave Oxford. I guess I know how that feels. When I left for Edinburgh, I also left with the knowledge that I would not be able to see Kenneth and Jeanne leave as well (although Jeanne has postponed her flights AGAIN). Kenneth left with a sms to me "thanking me for taking care of him". What he did not know was whatever I did to take care of him must have benefited me a lot too as I thoroughly enjoyed his company.
Well, I'm fully aware that the grass is always greener on the other side. I suppose when I go back there are things I look forward to as well like eating good Malaysian food and in time having a car to drive again. There are of course pros and cons to both places. But, Oxford has certainly left a mark in my heart which I will probably never forget. I hope when I leave, I will get a hug (like how I hugged Nana before she left) to soothe the pain of leaving this wonderful place. The city which was graced with the likes of Tolkien and CS Lewis and continues to be the beacon of academic excellence is indeed my 2nd home (if there was such a thing).
Now, as I graduate I leave the shell of a student and fully embark into an adventure which there's no return : my career. I hope to make a difference in this world and maybe, JUST MAYBE, with the right attitude and luck I someday will.
Thank you:
1) For all those who made my life in the UK a bliss; and
2) For all those who sought to make it a living hell (for without you I would not have appreciated those who were there for me through thick and thin).
P/s:
1) The post about my experience as a mini-pupil will come next as it is still in draft.
2) You can now download video clips of my trips in Scotland:
