Houses

When I was young, I had dreams of living in a beautiful house with a white picket fence (would anyone dare having just a picket fence in our country? God forbid, you could have those bloody Mat Rempits stoning your house or some vandals coming over to deface your property with their ‘art’) with a plush lawn. These days I know that those dreams will remain just that…

For now I know that it is only Municipal Councilors who can dream of mansions and palaces. Ask a certain Datuk Z if you don’t believe me. Although now with all the hullabaloo arising out of the media scrutiny over his misdeeds, he seems to have received quite a slap on the wrist. But, the question remains is how many more are like him out there? There could be quite a few and judging by the initial stance of adopting the ‘sweep under the carpet’ rule, these characters will probably go unpunished unless being forcefully brought out in the open (and hung to dry) by the media. It is good that something has been done to show some semblance of fairness by rapping Datuk Z’s knuckles, but, I fear the confidence of the people as a whole has taken quite a knock. What is the damage done by an individual will only be seen in the future. The Malays themselves have a saying of this nature: “kerana nilar setitik rosak susu sedayung”.

Politicians these days seem a lil’ too brazen and cocky for their own good. Ministers go around pulling their weight and seem to expect the common citizen to accept their misdemeanor. Strangely so since they seem to forget that it is the electorate that votes them into power in the first place. Again, it is accepted that it is a select few that are being such show offs that they constantly dominate the pages of the newspapers for the utter wrong reasons. This is a frightening turn of events. With so many causes to destabilize the people’s confidence against the government of the day, it cannot be good for the nation’s progress as a whole.

However, I shudder to say more on this sensitive issue. Telephones and blogs like these are being given more scrutiny, even a post as harmless as this can be misconstrued and the author facing fearful repercussions. I want what is good for my nation and my people, but, I’m not sure anymore whether my voice matters. Maybe it is because of this reason that I have to learn more and more foreign phone numbers as my friends leave the nation feeling disappointed and looking for pastures anew overseas.

It's really a shame if one looks back at what Datuk Z had done. You see, i am living in Klang, the exact place Datuk Z is staying and now days whenever I said I am from klang, the first thing that goes into the mind of the person I am talking to will be "ooh...that's where Datuk Z. is from". Well, I am soooooo speechless.

The problem is arrogance lies deep within the veins of many these days. With such blinded eyes, they can't do much for the people can they?
