My sympathies
I was just looking through my CLP study skills guide and here is what was written:
Reasoning skills:
Reasoning by analogy means reasoning from part to part
Example: Facts (Part): 1.A tortoise is slow and steady
2. Samy is like a tortoise.
Conclusion: Samy is SLOW and steady.
Suddenly I thought about the recent statement by a senior minister in a neighboring country where he allegedly accused Malaysia of marginalizing a certain racial community within the country. I can remember not so long ago a certain guy (K), who graduated from Oxford for what that’s worth, also contending that another racial community, is marginalized in Penang. However, when K uttered those inflammatory statements, he was well understood by the powers that be (who was very tolerable since K was 'misquoted') and K even justified that he was merely trying to protect the welfare of his own race. What a shame that people still look at racial politics huh? But, according to the aforesaid reasoning, then, wouldn't the senior minister also expect to receive a similar treatment?
Example: Fact: 1. K says racial community marginalized. K misquoted.
2. Senior minister says racial community marginalized.
Conclusion: Senior minister misquoted?
Unfortunately, the powers that be do not agree with this reasoning. Instead the minister is in hot soup for uttering such divisive remarks while the other guy, K just got off with less than a slap on the wrist. Hmm…looks like I'm just slow these days. I just can't see the reasoning. Someone please help me?
